obscure identity of the sober

Galerie Joseph, Paris, France, 2013

On the summits of two hills in a non-desert landscape, the obscure lives on one and the sober on the other; they are the two landmarks of this exhibition. Identity gives the sober a reason to exist in the eyes of the world.

Darkness exists at 360°, is not just dark, it's a state in itself, a territory of choice where shadow hides light, dark rests light. In darkness, objects, bodies and beings relax, letting their desires express themselves freely. The body distorts itself gracefully, enjoying its state of life.

The sober man is a means, isolating the subject to give it space. He is a dust hunter, a warrior who captures his prey in the multitudes of objects. Sober ink paintings are the lover's desire to indulge in blackness, helping the sober man to penetrate the figure, making the sober man sing, dance beneath a deep monotone voice, fulfilling his quest for the absolute.

My photographs act indirectly, offering another possibility, exploring the variations offered by "the photographed photo". Unlike the cloning of a painted subject, the cloned-on-cloned photograph offers an infinite number of possible freeze-frames of the object seen in the mirror. What is experienced here is an echo of superimposed visual digital signs in continual metamorphosis. Like ancient theatrical performances, where the stress of information flow makes us feel the aches and pains inflicted on our consciousness.
